SIR Paul Stephenson, the former chief constable of Lancashire, received a knighthood today at Buckingham Palace.

Sir Paul is currently the Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner, and he is being tipped to take the top job when Sir Ian Blair stands down later this year.

He began his career with Lancashire Constabulary in 1975, and was appointed the county’s Chief Constable in 2002. Sir Paul returns to Lancashire each weekend to spend time with his wife and three daughters, who live in the county.
